Utility Operations Supervisor - Dining Services

SUMMARY:

The Utility Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Heilman Dining Center's utility team, managing daily utility functions to support the residential dining facility. This position involves active participation in cleaning and sanitation tasks, adhering to health and safety regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Training:
  • Offers direction and support to utility personnel, establishing high standards for cleanliness, organization, and sanitation.
  • Oversees staff to guarantee cleanliness across all areas of the Heilman Center, including external surroundings.
  • Ensures compliance with established cleanliness standards in all utility operations.
  • Implements and enforces safety protocols.
  • Assigns daily tasks and special projects to team members.
  • Conducts training sessions for staff.
Operational Duties:
  • Distributes daily work assignments and schedules breaks for staff.
  • Maintains cleanliness in work areas: performs cleaning duties, assigns daily tasks to staff, keeps cleaning logs, and participates in hands-on cleaning as necessary.
  • Manages waste disposal in accordance with established procedures.
  • Arranges furniture and setups for dining and meeting spaces.
  • Monitors inventory and usage of cleaning chemicals and equipment, collaborating with service managers to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Maintains a safe working environment, reporting and addressing safety concerns.
  • Reports any equipment issues or malfunctions.
  • Responsible for opening or closing the utility department as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role requires extended periods of standing and walking, along with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The work environment may be hot, humid, or cold, and the individual must be capable of safely using standard kitchen tools and equipment. Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with utility department operations, including janitorial services, dishwashing, waste management, sanitation regulations, and cleaning equipment.
  • Understanding of utility supplies, equipment, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Ability to apply basic management principles, including staff leadership and training.
  • Proficient in reading, mathematics, and both written and verbal communication.
  • Capability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to remain flexible and work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Ability to uphold established quality control standards.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED is required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 2 years in utility or janitorial roles within a high-volume hotel, restaurant, or college food service environment is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
WORK HOURS:
  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
  • Typical hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; 8 hours per day; 40 hours per week; with rotating days and weekends.
  • This position is classified as essential personnel and may require availability during inclement weather or emergencies.
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 2 (Hiring Range $15.15 to $17.80 per hour)
