The Control Room Operator plays a crucial role in the management and routine maintenance of power plant systems. This includes High Pressure water tube boilers, steam-driven turbine generators, electric chillers, wastewater systems, and other auxiliary equipment. The operator is responsible for monitoring operational data and reporting any irregularities. Under general supervision, the operator will manage all plant equipment through a distributed control system and will guide floor operators during startup, shutdown, and emergency response operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess and ensure the proper functioning of all machinery.
- Adhere to and advocate for established operational practices, utilizing service manuals for guidance.
- Operate equipment to fulfill utility customer requirements.
- Monitor and document pressures, temperatures, and fuel usage of operating equipment.
- Identify and communicate maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Observe, document, and analyze data from instrumentation and control systems.
- Interpret safety data sheets and operational instructions.
- Utilize hand and power tools for maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps, and related equipment.
- Conduct functional testing of plant systems and components, comparing results against established standards.
- May require certification for wearing a full-face respirator.
- Promote and practice safety protocols, reporting any unsafe conditions.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment and follow management directives.
- Be punctual and ready to work at the designated start time.
- Be available for scheduled or unscheduled overtime as needed.
- Be willing to work rotating shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
- Maintain professional interactions with colleagues and the public.
- Perform housekeeping duties as necessary.
- Occasionally conduct training sessions, preparing relevant educational materials.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a process-related field such as chemical manufacturing, refining, or energy generation.
- 1 to 3 years of journeyman-level experience in a plant environment involving boilers, chillers, pumps, and water treatment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to obtain certification for wearing a full-face respirator.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and operational manuals.
- Familiarity with maintaining daily plant logs.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with safe practices in using hand tools and power equipment.
- Capability to work rotating shifts to support plant operations.
- Ability to recognize audible alarms and changes in equipment noise levels.
- Physical capability to lift heavy equipment and materials.
Certifications:
- Valid United States driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
