Sales Support Manager

About Us: Founded in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. began as a cooperative for the centralized procurement of essential import foods to cater to the early Japanese immigrant community in Southern California. Nearly a century later, we have established ourselves as a leading supplier of Japanese foodservice products and play a vital role as a "Culinary Ambassador" in promoting Japanese cuisine globally. We currently import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 products, including Japanese foods, beverages, and restaurant supplies.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
Compensation: $68,500 - $85,000 per year
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop strategies to penetrate the American consumer market through innovative projects and programs.
- Achieve monthly and annual sales targets as outlined by the Division Manager.
- Supervise brokers to establish sales goals and implement effective strategies.
- Assist the Division Manager in creating sales objectives and tactics for the division.
- Support the Division Manager in leading and motivating the sales team to meet corporate sales goals.
- Analyze sales performance data and devise plans to address any performance gaps.
- Organize workflows and ensure clarity of roles among team members.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures among the sales staff.
- Monitor productivity of sales personnel and provide constructive feedback.
- Oversee staff projects to ensure alignment with timelines, budgets, and objectives.
- Manage sales and marketing budget expenditures effectively.
- Coordinate with department managers on inter-departmental matters.
- Assist in training new team members.
- Work with the accounting team to ensure timely payment collections.
- Maintain and operate the company vehicle in accordance with company policies.
- Lead weekly division meetings and participate in relevant discussions.
- Attend semiannual inventory counts as scheduled.
- Engage in trade shows and events as per business objectives.
- Participate in company events outside of regular working hours.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Manager.
- Respond to management requests as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive for extended periods.
- Capability to sit in a vehicle for long durations.
- Frequent ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use a phone for extended periods.
Working Environment:
Noise Level: Ranges from normal to loud in the office.
Additional Requirements:
- Proficient in business-level English – reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Basic Japanese language skills; business-level proficiency preferred.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
- Exhibit a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel for trade events.
- Adaptability to frequent changes in tasks and workload.
- Complete the Sake Adviser course within one year of employment.
- AA Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years in food or liquor sales experience.
- Preferred 3+ years in customer service or sales roles.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Basic mathematical skills – understanding markups, discounts, measurements, and inventory counting.
- Data analysis and compilation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Problem-solving abilities.
- Leadership capabilities.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly AS400, is preferred.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience attending trade shows is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes is a plus.
