Position: Social Service Assistant

Company: Axess Family Services

Work Schedule: Part-time (less than 20 hours/week), flexible hours including evenings and weekends; on-call responsibilities.

Compensation: $15/hour

Key Responsibilities

The Social Service Assistant will report directly to the Program Manager and is expected to adhere to the policies and procedures of Axess Family Services. The role involves creating a supportive environment for veteran residents.

  1. Manage daily operations of the facility in the absence of the Program Manager.
  2. Contribute to the formulation of policies and procedures under the guidance of the Program Manager.
  3. Oversee staff scheduling and approve shift changes for support personnel in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  4. Assist with billing and payroll processes for the facility and its staff as required.
  5. Participate in meetings, training sessions, and conferences as necessary.
  6. Maintain accurate records and logs.
  7. Provide staff support during on-call hours.
  8. Help cover shifts and manage call-offs when on-call.
  9. Conduct risk assessments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  10. Support the initiation and oversight of new service provisions, including access to community resources.
  11. Supervise local Support Workers directly.
  12. Assist Case Managers in their duties as needed.
  13. Deliver a variety of practical, personal, social, and general care services to veteran residents.
  14. Conduct thorough assessments of veterans' needs and develop tailored support plans.
  15. Monitor and review support plans to adapt to changing needs.
  16. Encourage veteran involvement in decision-making processes regarding their services.
  17. Communicate and collaborate with various agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and Housing Authorities.
  18. Accompany veterans to appointments with relevant agencies when necessary.
  19. Collect and update data for the HMIS database as required.
  20. Engage in community events that promote services for veterans and their families.
  21. Ensure anti-discriminatory practices are upheld, protecting veterans from discrimination based on race, gender, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
  22. Implement Housing First, Trauma-Informed Care, and Harm Reduction principles while utilizing Motivational Interviewing and De-escalation Techniques as appropriate.
  23. Provide necessary support to enhance the quality of life for all veteran residents.
  24. Adapt to various working environments, whether as part of a team or independently.
  25. Foster positive relationships with colleagues.
  26. Assist in maintaining knowledge of fire regulations and emergency procedures to ensure health and safety standards are met.
  27. Comply with agency policies, COA regulations, and federal and state requirements.
  28. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency driving insurability requirements.
  2. Must pass a criminal background check as per agency standards.
  3. Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree or ongoing studies in social work or a related field preferred.
