Job Overview

Position Title: Housing Specialist

Work Schedule: Weekend coverage for a 24/7 facility

Availability: Flexible hours, including partial weekends (less than 20 hours/week)

Compensation: $15/hour

Axess Family Services is dedicated to providing community-based case management and stabilization support for young adults aged 18-24 facing challenges such as abuse, neglect, or homelessness.

Our mission is to assist in their journey towards independence by securing stable housing, imparting essential life skills, and offering resources that foster a strong foundation for self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties: Respond to the homeless emergency crisis line to conduct assessments, explore housing alternatives, and coordinate referrals to suitable resources. Under the guidance of the Program Operations Coordinator, facilitate the admission of homeless individuals to appropriate shelters when space permits. The role requires the ability to work independently and perform all job functions effectively.

Essential Functions:
  1. Conduct client intakes and assist in addressing resident needs; provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  2. Collaborate with all shelter staff to ensure the delivery of effective services.
  3. Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
  4. Arrive 15 minutes before the shift to facilitate communication during shift changes.
  5. Assist with clerical tasks, including thank-you letters and client file documentation.
  6. Maintain timely adherence to designated shifts or arrange for coverage when unavailable.
  7. Complete necessary documentation and reporting procedures to compile statistics, resident information, and special projects.
  8. Receive and organize donations and shelter supplies; may transport donations to/from off-site locations.
  9. Participate in monthly staff meetings, all-agency meetings, and other relevant community meetings.
  10. Identify and report issues or unmet needs to the Program Manager or Program Operations Coordinator.
  11. Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  12. Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  1. Ability to demonstrate open communication, fair treatment, and display compassion.
  2. Willingness to learn a client-centered approach and conflict resolution; ability to manage crisis situations.
  3. Familiarity with community services and support systems.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word.
  5. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency driving insurability requirements if applicable.
  6. Must meet agency requirements for a criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).

Minimum Educational/Licensure Requirements: CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

Minimum Experience Requirements: Experience in crisis intervention preferred.
