Job Overview

Position Title: National Cyber Operator

Salary: Competitive

Job Objective:
We are seeking a skilled Cyber Operator with practical experience in Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and forensic analysis. The successful candidate will support the National Cyber Protection Team (CPT) by taking on roles as either a Cyber Security Network Analyst or a Cyber Security Host Analyst.

Key Responsibilities:
The Cyber Operator will engage in network exploration, tactical forensic assessments, and the collection of critical operational data. When necessary, the operator will execute missions to bolster defensive strategies. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing ongoing monitoring support for all assigned networks, enclaves, and systems.
  • Interpreting, analyzing, and reporting findings in line with computer network protocols, including initiating responses to detected events.
  • Managing and executing initial responses to reported incidents.
  • Participating in project review meetings, offering technical INFOSEC guidance, and documenting policies and lessons learned.
  • Exhibiting strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience, an Associate's degree with 4 years of experience, or 6 years of equivalent experience without a degree; degrees in engineering or applied sciences are preferred. Other degrees with a robust computer technology curriculum may also be considered.

Specialized Knowledge: A general understanding of physical computer components and architectures, including the functions of various components and peripherals, basic programming concepts, assembly language, TCP/IP, OSI models, and security hardware and software.

Experience:
Candidates should have:

  • Experience with tools such as Wireshark, ELK, Moloch, Metasploit, tcpdump, NMap, Nessus, Snort, Bro, EnCase, and Forensic Toolkit.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Threat Detection and Mitigation, along with Behavioral Malware Analysis.
  • Expertise in Advanced Network Traffic Analysis and Malicious Network Traffic Analysis.
  • Strong fundamentals in UNIX/Linux and familiarity with Command Line Interfaces (CLI) across UNIX/Linux/Windows.
  • Proven ability to analyze problems methodically and identify viable solutions.
  • Experience in programming with assembly, compiled, and interpreted languages.
  • Familiarity with encryption and decryption methods such as PGP, DES, AES, RSA, and PKI.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including C, C++, C#, Ruby, Perl, Python, and SQL.
  • Experience with correlation environment tools (e.g., ArcSight).

Professional Certifications:
Candidates should possess or be willing to obtain within six months of hire:

  • Operating System Certification (Microsoft or Linux).
  • Certifications such as GXPN, GREM, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, GCFA, GNFA, RHCE, CompTIA, LPT, OSCP, CEH, Security+, MCP, and SANS GPEN are advantageous.

  • Meet DoD 8570 IAT Level 3 requirements.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing, editing, and executing scripts on various operating systems.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills and the ability to articulate the operational impact of vulnerabilities or exploits.
  • Assist clients in implementing policies and procedures for conducting assessments.

Clearance Requirement:
ACTIVE TS/SCI CLEARANCE is required; positions on the National Team will necessitate successful completion of a Counter Intelligence Polygraph Examination after hire.
