Aquatic Safety Officer

Position Overview:
The Aquatic Safety Officer is responsible for enforcing safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all participants in the Red Shield's Aquatics Program. The Supervisor will manage and execute aquatic activities tailored to the interests and needs of the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain vigilant observation of patrons within the facility; respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies to ensure the safety of all individuals. Provide necessary emergency care until professional medical assistance arrives.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor and uphold exceptional customer service standards at all times.
- Perform various maintenance tasks as assigned to keep the facility clean and safe.
- Daily cleaning of the pool deck and locker rooms.
- Conduct weekly vacuuming and backwashing of the pool to maintain cleanliness and proper water filtration.
- Ensure proper storage and upkeep of all pool equipment.
- Maintain an organized and tidy pool office area at all times.
- Regularly check and maintain appropriate chlorine and pH levels in the pool water.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of all aquatic areas.
- Secure all pool entrances and changing areas after activities conclude.
- Assist in or lead various program activities including general swim, swim lessons, swim team, family swim, water aerobics, and water polo.
- Report any incidents, statistics, and safety concerns to the head lifeguard or facility director.
- Ensure the safety and proper conduct of all members by being aware of potential hazards and addressing inappropriate behavior.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding personnel, members, and other work-related information.
- Understand and adhere to the philosophy, Program Standards, and Protecting the Mission Policies of The Salvation Army. Instruct, supervise, and support volunteers participating in community service programs.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files and drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Lifeguard Certification, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification and Aqua Aerobics Instructor certification are advantageous.
- AED Training Certification.
- High School Diploma.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
- Valid driving record and clean Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable).
- A criminal background check is required for those working with children, in accordance with Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
