Aquatic Safety Instructor

THE POSITION
As an Aquatic Safety Instructor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our community's aquatic facilities. Your responsibilities will include providing exceptional customer service and performing rescue duties to support our aquatics program. You will monitor activities in the pool to guarantee public safety and adherence to established rules and regulations while also instructing swimming and water safety courses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Organize and lead special events, while teaching essential skills such as first aid, water safety, and swimming techniques.
- Oversee the aquatics facility, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
- Foster a positive recreational atmosphere and promote appropriate behavior among patrons.
- Provide assistance and information to guests, addressing inquiries and resolving any issues that arise.
- Prevent accidents by enforcing safety policies and monitoring for individuals needing assistance.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the pool area, conducting regular water quality tests and managing chemical levels.
- Instruct patrons on safe practices, ensuring their well-being while using the facilities.
- Respond to emergencies by performing rescues, administering first aid, and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
- Assist in the preparation and staffing of special events.
- Keep accurate records, including daily logs and incident reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with at least one season of experience as a lifeguard.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess or obtain a valid California driver's license within six months of hire. Additionally, certifications for American Red Cross Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer must be acquired within 30 days of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully pass a background check and be available to work during operational hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical fitness standards must be maintained to meet departmental requirements.
