Job Description

Job Summary:

Duke Health is seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to pediatric patients in our Level IV Intensive Care Nursery, Pediatric Cardiothoracic ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Emergency Room, and critical care stepdown beds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer oxygen, aerosolized medication, and other respiratory therapies as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures, including nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, CPR, and bag-mask ventilation.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, including pulse oximetry and arterial blood gas punctures.
  • Assure correct set-up, safety, and function of all equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
  • Provide education to patients, families, physicians, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a 2-year AMA-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or the equivalent).
  • North Carolina State Licensure or North Carolina State Provisional License, Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and any other applicable certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months to one year of clinical experience following graduation from a respiratory care program.
  • Registry (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
