Position Overview:

The Senior Commodity Buyer is tasked with overseeing the pricing, investment, and annual cost reduction of assigned automotive components, all of which significantly influence the financial performance of the organization. This role involves establishing part and supplier strategies by understanding the global and North American supply landscape, manufacturing processes, and critical design elements. By collaborating with key stakeholders, the Senior Commodity Buyer will propose optimal suppliers based on cost, quality, development, and delivery metrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, obtain approval for, and implement purchasing strategies for assigned commodities/suppliers, managing a portfolio of 8 to 10 suppliers with an annual expenditure of $300M to $500M.
  • Ensure accurate and timely supplier selection and bill of materials (BOM) maintenance.
  • Set and achieve realistic cost targets for new models through effective supplier negotiations.
  • Drive annual cost improvement initiatives, targeting reductions between $7M and $12M.
  • Facilitate prompt quotation processing to ensure efficient supplier payments.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships while monitoring industry trends.
  • Achieve consensus on new model supplier selections, managing multiple developments through collaborative activities with design teams.
  • Oversee projects that align with business objectives, including cost improvement and diversity initiatives.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to support Honda's lean practices.

Candidate Profile:

Experience:

  • 2-3 years in Purchasing, Sales, Quality Control, or Engineering (Purchasing preferred).

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong negotiation abilities based on logical reasoning.
  • Expertise in cost management.
  • Proficient in managing supplier relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate in teams to build consensus and solve problems.
  • Project management skills.
  • Capability to analyze blueprints.

Additional Position Considerations:

  • Occasional international travel may be required, averaging 1-2 weeks per trip.
  • Willingness to work overtime based on business demands.
  • Open office environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Expect to spend approximately 90% of the day at a desk (sedentary) and 10% in meetings or plant visits (active).
  • Remote work options may be available based on management discretion.
