Position Overview:
The Senior Commodity Buyer plays a crucial role in managing the cost, investment, and annual savings associated with specific automotive components. This position significantly influences the financial outcomes of the organization. The role involves developing supplier strategies by leveraging insights from the North American and global supply networks, understanding manufacturing processes, and analyzing critical design elements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, secure approval for, and implement purchasing strategies for a portfolio of commodities, managing relationships with approximately 8 to 10 suppliers with an annual expenditure of $300M to $500M.
  • Ensure timely and precise supplier selection and maintenance of Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Set and achieve realistic cost targets for new models through effective supplier negotiations.
  • Drive annual cost reduction initiatives in mass production, aiming for savings between $7M and $12M.
  • Facilitate accurate and prompt quotation processes to guarantee efficient supplier payments.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while keeping abreast of industry trends.
  • Achieve consensus on supplier selection for new models, coordinating multiple development projects with design teams.
  • Manage projects that align with business objectives, including cost reduction and diversity initiatives.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance Honda's lean practices.

Candidate Profile:

Experience:
2-3 years in Purchasing, Sales, Quality Control, or Engineering, with a preference for Purchasing experience.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong negotiation skills based on analytical reasoning.
  • Ability to manage costs effectively.
  • Proficient in fostering supplier relationships.
  • Team-oriented with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Project management experience.
  • Competence in blueprint analysis.
