About the Role:

The Senior Commodity Buyer plays a crucial role in managing the pricing, investment, and annual cost reduction of assigned automotive components, which significantly influence the financial performance of the organization. This position involves developing part and supplier strategies by leveraging an understanding of the global and North American supply chains, manufacturing processes, and essential design elements of critical components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, secure approval for, and implement purchasing strategies for designated commodities/suppliers, managing between 8 to 10 suppliers with an annual expenditure ranging from $300 million to $500 million.
  • Ensure accurate and timely selection of suppliers and maintenance of Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Establish and meet logical cost targets for new models through effective supplier selection and negotiation.
  • Achieve annual cost improvement goals for mass production, targeting reductions between $7 million and $12 million.
  • Oversee the timely processing of quotations to facilitate efficient supplier payments.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring industry trends and characteristics.
  • Facilitate consensus on supplier selection for new models, managing multiple model developments through collaborative activities with design teams.
  • Effectively manage projects that align with business objectives, including cost improvement, growth, and diversity initiatives.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to support lean practices within the organization.

Candidate Profile:

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in Purchasing, Sales, Quality Control, or Engineering, with a preference for Purchasing.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong negotiation skills based on logical reasoning.
  • Ability to manage costs effectively.
  • Proficient in maintaining supplier relationships.
  • Collaborative team player with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to analyze blueprints and technical documents.

Additional Considerations:

  • International travel may be required occasionally, averaging 1-2 weeks per trip.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed due to business cycles.
  • Work environment is open and moderately active.
  • Majority of work will be performed at a desk, with some time allocated for meetings and plant visits.
  • Flexible remote work options may be available based on management discretion.
  • Regular communication and presentation of information in group settings will be necessary.
