Position Overview:
The Senior Commodity Buyer plays a pivotal role in managing the cost, investment, and annual savings associated with complex automotive components. This position significantly influences the financial outcomes of our operations. The successful candidate will develop supplier strategies based on a comprehensive understanding of both the global and North American supply chains, manufacturing processes, and critical design aspects of parts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, obtain approval for, and implement purchasing strategies for a portfolio of commodities and suppliers, managing an annual expenditure of $300M to $500M across 8 to 10 suppliers.
  • Ensure precise and timely supplier selection and maintain the Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Set and achieve realistic cost targets for new models through effective supplier negotiation and selection.
  • Drive annual cost reduction goals in mass production, targeting improvements between $7M and $12M.
  • Facilitate accurate and prompt quotation processes to ensure efficient supplier payments.
  • Build and nurture supplier relationships while staying informed on industry trends.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to reach consensus on supplier selections for new models, managing multiple development projects.
  • Oversee projects that align with business objectives, including cost reduction and diversity initiatives.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives that support Honda's lean manufacturing practices.


Candidate Profile:

Experience:
2-3 years in Purchasing, Sales, Quality Control, or Engineering, with a preference for Purchasing experience.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Desired Skills:
Proficient negotiation skills, cost management, supplier relationship management, teamwork for consensus building, project management, and blueprint analysis.


Additional Information:
International travel may be required occasionally, and candidates should be prepared for potential overtime due to business demands. The work environment is open and collaborative, with a significant portion of the day spent at a desk, alongside meetings and plant visits. Remote work options may be available based on management discretion.
