Position Overview

The Nourishment Access Manager is responsible for spearheading the initiatives of Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis (JFCS) aimed at addressing hunger and ensuring food accessibility for individuals and families. This role involves advocating for equitable food policies and securing necessary funding while managing outreach efforts and providing essential education and support to team members. The position oversees the Kosher Meals on Wheels (KMOW) program, ensuring smooth daily operations and personalized support for clients. Additionally, the manager coordinates culturally appropriate emergency food packages available for clients in need.

Compensation and Benefits
  • $25.50 per hour
  • 30 hours per week
  • Work-life balance including vacation, wellness leave, paid family and medical leave, holidays, flexible scheduling, and the option to work from home up to 60% of the time

Key Responsibilities

Program Management (65%)
  • Conduct assessments via phone and in-person to determine eligibility for food assistance programs, including SNAP.
  • Facilitate KMOW intake referrals by collecting necessary information from referral sources, engaging with clients to explain policies, preferences, and complete required documentation.
  • Respond promptly to internal referrals and community requests for food resources, connecting individuals to additional JFCS and community services as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, correspondence, and track outcomes of outreach and engagement activities.
  • Oversee compliance and coordination of the KMOW program.
  • Conduct initial and annual home visits for select clients.
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Supervisor and drivers regarding KMOW routes and adjustments.
  • Engage with internal and external partners on program management, including data collection, tracking, reporting, supply procurement, billing resolution, and participation in training and networking.
  • Deliver meal routes as necessary.
  • Explore opportunities to enhance program offerings through a person-centered approach.
Community Outreach and Advocacy (25%):
  • Develop and implement an annual outreach strategy to strengthen and establish new community partnerships aimed at improving food access and reaching individuals at risk of food insecurity.
  • Act as a liaison to community partners focused on providing food and support services.
  • Promote the KMOW program to other agencies, community organizations, and funding bodies, positioning KMOW as a trusted and high-quality service provider.
  • Participate in statewide advocacy initiatives with partners to combat hunger.
  • Keep JFCS leadership informed about advocacy issues related to food security.
  • Stay informed about the latest resources, policies, and regulations regarding SNAP benefits in Minnesota, as well as county application procedures.
  • Communicate updates on policies and resources to staff and collaborate with the JFCS intake team.
Logistics and Volunteer Coordination (5%):
  • Oversee the emergency food box program, coordinating with staff to ensure appropriate contents based on client needs and cultural preferences.
  • Procure, pack, and stock emergency food boxes, ensuring accessibility for staff and coordinating delivery to clients.
  • Organize food drives and other volunteer initiatives, including seasonal produce distributions.
  • Coordinate winter emergency food supplies for regular clients.
Additional Responsibilities (5%):
  • Undertake additional duties aligned with program needs and professional development objectives.
Qualifications

Experience and Education
  • Background in Human Services or Social Services (preferred).
  • At least two years of experience working with older adults in community settings (preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a community-based program (preferred).
  • Experience in advocacy, either as a volunteer or in a professional capacity (preferred).
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, religious, financial, racial, and gender differences.
  • Familiarity with client confidentiality practices, HIPAA, and electronic health records (preferred).
Skills and Attributes

  • Proven ability to engage with individuals from various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to navigate a hybrid work model, balancing in-office and remote work.
  • Proficiency in the Russian language (preferred).
  • Experience with ServTracker (preferred).
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
  • Frequent communication through writing, phone calls, and driving.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Capacity to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Engagement in a variety of physical activities including driving, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, and climbing stairs.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, and appropriate auto insurance coverage.
