Position Overview

Role: The Substitute Teacher plays a crucial role within the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency, supporting the educational framework of State Preschool, Head Start, and Early Head Start programs. This position involves engaging with young learners in both preschool and infant-toddler environments, ensuring a nurturing and effective learning atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of a comprehensive educational curriculum.
  • Supervise and interact with children, fostering their development and learning.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to support parents in their essential role as their child's first teacher.
  • Contribute to the overall delivery of services to families, ensuring a coordinated approach.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Support food service operations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For Associate Teacher I: Completion of 12 college units in Child Development, including core courses; for Early Head Start, 6 units must focus on infants and toddlers.
  • Progress towards an AS/AA degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Application for an Associate Teacher Permit or Child Development Associate Credential within 30 days of hire.

For Associate Teacher II:

  • A.A./A.S. degree with 24 college units in ECE/Child Development, including core courses; for Early Head Start, at least 3 units focused on infants and toddlers.
  • Progress towards a BS/BA degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Application for an Associate Teacher Permit or Child Development Associate Credential within 30 days of hire.

Common Requirements for Both Levels:

  • At least 50 days of experience working with children in the past 2 years.
  • Valid California driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check and health screening, including fingerprint clearance and TB test.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans and track children's progress.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Head Start or preschool setting.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Possession of an Associate Teacher or higher Children's Center Permit or Child Development Associate Credential.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with computer applications.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and other physical activities. The position involves working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions. Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs may be necessary.
