Position Overview

Role Summary: The Mentor Coach plays a pivotal role within the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency's Early Childhood Services Professional Development team. This position is dedicated to the strategic planning and monitoring of the Professional Development initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills of teaching personnel.

The Mentor Coach collaborates closely with educators and management to promote exemplary practices in the execution of Early/Head Start and California State Preschool programs across various classrooms. This role involves assessing the coaching needs of specific classrooms in partnership with the Quality Assurance Manager and delivering tailored coaching support to individual staff members or teaching teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the effective application of the Creative Curriculum for Head Start and Early Head Start, utilizing fidelity checklists for administrators.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary team meetings when necessary, particularly for children with disabilities or behavioral intervention plans.
  • Assist educators in implementing early childhood assessment tools, leveraging results to enhance classroom environments and routines.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with teaching staff to review and refine their professional development plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers to formulate professional development strategies and assist them in navigating the permit application process while evaluating their progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of coaching activities in the database and support staff in logging their professional development hours.

  • Identify and address any immediate health and safety concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor that align with the role's objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a California Child Development Teacher permit or a higher qualification.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or a related field, complemented by coursework in Education, Human Development, Psychology, or Liberal Arts, alongside a minimum of three years of teaching experience in preschool or toddler settings.
  • At least one year of experience in training and mentoring preschool or toddler educators.
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience in a state-licensed preschool or toddler environment.
  • Compliance with all federal and state licensing requirements, including a valid California driver's license, acceptable driving record, fingerprint clearance, TB test, CPR, First Aid training, and health screening.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with children with special needs.
  • Proficiency in developing classroom procedures and plans.
  • Experience with Head Start, State Preschool, or Early Head Start programs.
  • Familiarity with preschool evaluation and assessment tools, including the CLASS tool, with the ability to achieve certification as a Reliable CLASS Rater and conduct Environmental Rating Scale assessments.
  • Training in the Creative Curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with Coaching Companion.
  • Current Reliable CLASS Rater status.
  • Experience in a teacher learning environment, such as a Lab School.
  • Understanding of early childhood educational standards and experience advising staff on professional growth.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with local educational resources and support systems for educators.
