Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Employment Specialist is tasked with delivering extensive case management and job readiness services tailored for unemployed veterans participating in the program. These services aim to facilitate the successful reintegration of veterans facing homelessness or incarceration into the workforce.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Social Services, or Career Counseling with a preference for two years of relevant experience.
  • Associate's degree in Social Work, Social Services, or Career Counseling with a requirement of three years of related experience.
  • Experience in providing services to individuals with Substance Use Disorders (SUD), Co-occurring Disorders (COD), or those experiencing homelessness with complex needs is highly preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer systems, spreadsheets, and database management is preferred.
  • Experience working with veteran populations is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment interviews with homeless veteran participants to evaluate how their military training and experiences can be leveraged for civilian employment.
  • Assess participants' skill sets, identify barriers to employment, and determine job readiness needs.
  • Provide career counseling to assist veterans in establishing both short-term and long-term career objectives.
  • Collaborate with veterans to develop an Individual Employment Plan (IEP) based on assessment findings, skill evaluations, and career aspirations.
  • Identify specific credentialing requirements for occupations and assist veterans in acquiring necessary credentials and enrolling in relevant vocational training programs.
  • Design and facilitate individual and group training sessions/workshops focused on resume development, soft skills enhancement, and job readiness.
  • Work in partnership with local Disabled Veteran's Opportunities Programs (DVOP), Local Veteran Employment Representatives (LVERs), VA personnel, and other community-based organization staff to ensure coordinated service delivery and placement support.
  • Assist with job placement through on-the-job training (OJT), apprenticeship programs, and direct employment opportunities.
  • Refer veterans to supportive services and local resources as needed.
  • Collaborate with case management staff regarding treatment and housing strategies that align with the Individual Employment Plan (IEP).
  • Provide ongoing job coaching and retention services in compliance with Department of Labor regulations and organizational procedures; maintain employment data within the designated timeframe.
  • Document service case notes and outcome data in the appropriate client database; ensure case files are complete and adhere to regulatory requirements.
