Job Summary

The Food Service Worker position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service department at the Veterans Health Administration, a leading healthcare provider for veterans. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for performing food preparation, dishwashing, and dry and refrigerated storage tasks with several steps and attention to work operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Returns soiled trays and wares to the dish room.
  • Sets up cold menu items such as salads, desserts, and cold beverages on a serving line.
  • Delivers trays to patients and guests, and removes dishes and trays from the tables and tray carts after meals.
  • Operates and/or breaks down equipment.
  • Cleans electrical equipment used for food preparation, worktables, sinks, and refrigerators.
  • Separates food waste and trash from dishes, glasses, and silverware in the dishwashing area.
  • Performs cleaning tasks in the food service areas such as sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Loads and operates ware washing machines.
  • Stores sanitized dishes and silverware per procedure.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
