Position Overview:

Title: Lead Architect for Science and Technology Initiatives

Location: Northwest Region

AECOM is in search of a Regional Science + Technology Lead to enhance our Buildings + Places leadership team, focusing on the expansion of our professional services within the science and technology sector.

This pivotal role requires a leader with profound expertise in the planning, design, and execution of cutting-edge laboratory environments, alongside a strong emphasis on business development and strategic growth.

In this capacity, you will cultivate a diverse team of Architects, Engineers, Advisors, Strategists, and Consultants across various offices, collaborating within a national and global network of specialists dedicated to delivering impactful science and technology projects. We anticipate that this individual will be an adept 'seller-doer', responsible for managing professional project deliverables, securing new opportunities, fostering client relationships, and expanding AECOM's portfolio of premier science and technology initiatives. This role will report to the U.S. West Regional Director of Growth and will work closely with Science + Technology Market leaders across the organization.

Core Responsibilities:

Design Leadership:

  • Oversee a multidisciplinary team encompassing design, technical, management, business development, and marketing/communications professionals.
  • Inspire and mentor junior and mid-level architectural and engineering staff, as well as partner/sub-consulting design firms.
  • Provide innovative design solutions, anticipate challenges, articulate objectives, and establish project standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to design excellence, integrity, and reliability.

Business Development:

  • Lead project pursuits and formulate successful strategies for new initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key clients, organizations, and partner firms.
  • Offer thought leadership on significant programs and national initiatives.

Practice Building:

  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and excellence throughout all project phases.
  • Mentor and develop emerging design and technical professionals within the team.
  • Exhibit negotiation skills to address critical issues and guide projects to successful conclusions.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Architecture with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in a leadership capacity within an Architecture, Engineering, or consulting firm focused on Science + Technology projects.
  • At least 5 years of recent experience demonstrating exceptional capabilities in business development within the Design and Building sectors.
  • Established relationships with regional Science + Technology clients.
  • Professional Licensure as an Architect (RA, AIA) or Planner (AICP).
  • LEED and/or Well accreditation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, recognized as a subject matter expert in the local market.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
