About the Role

Creative Kids is a leading toy manufacturer seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Product Development to lead our product development and sourcing teams. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and executing our product roadmap, driving innovation, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Roadmap & Brand Management
    • Develop a comprehensive 2-year product innovation roadmap in collaboration with our President, ensuring our core brands remain fresh and competitive.
    • Create and maintain brand development calendars that align with key sales channel presentations, guaranteeing quality product offerings that meet client needs.
    • Stay abreast of global market trends and competitor activity, ensuring our products surpass industry standards.
    • Manage our overseas team and maintain competitive pricing on existing product lines.
    • Collaborate with customer service, production, and quality control teams to ensure consistent high-quality products.
  • New Product Development
    • Lead the Product Development team and oversee the entire development process from concept to launch.
    • Facilitate product brainstorming sessions and conceptualize new product ideas.
    • Work closely with the sales team on client presentations, developing customer-specific product concepts and delivering sales materials that showcase product value.
    • Conduct market research to ensure product recommendations are at the forefront of the market.
    • Collaborate with overseas teams on quoting new products, maintaining detailed specs and factory costs, and ensuring MSRP and product margins reflect high value.
    • Maintain tight development and production schedules, ensuring all product milestones and delivery timelines are met.
    • Oversee prototyping and pre-production sample processes to ensure quality, value, and functionality.
  • Leadership
    • Mentor and develop the Product Development team.
    • Implement an agile work methodology and drive continuous improvement.
    • Identify and implement process improvements.
    • Troubleshoot challenges and remove roadblocks.
    • Manage outside freelancers in the creation of design and 3D drawings as needed.
    Requirements
    • 5+ years of experience in the toy industry or a closely related consumer product industry.
    • Strong leadership skills, with a passion for collaboration and developing exciting play opportunities for kids.
    • A highly organized individual who can handle multiple concurrent projects and work cross-functionally with various teams.
    • Must be creative, innovative, and an extremely hard worker.
    • Proven track record in people management (minimum of 5+ years) and continual process improvements.
    • Must be a driver of results, ensuring all key milestones are met in a timely manner.
    • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to efficiently work with all levels of an organization in a fast-paced environment.
    • Deep understanding of product design and manufacturing methods.
    • Ability to quickly learn company products while staying current with competitive products and markets.
    • Experience working with a global supply chain and overseas vendors.
    • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Industrial or Product Design.
    • Expert skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with PLM systems and CAD design a plus.
