Position Overview:

As the Director of Product Development, you will spearhead a team of product development and sourcing professionals, collaborating across the merchandising division to establish a unified customer strategy. Your role will involve overseeing critical performance indicators that drive profitable growth, cultivating strong partnerships with suppliers, and leveraging your vision and creativity to enhance the customer experience through appealing product assortments.

Your in-depth understanding of supplier and customer requirements will position you to anticipate future business needs. Success in this role demands a strong leadership presence and the capability to manage strategic initiatives effectively. You will engage with suppliers at various levels and navigate complex challenges with ease.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Brand Oversight

  • Formulate a dynamic 2-year innovation product roadmap in collaboration with the company’s President, ensuring the Creative Kids brands remain vibrant with new product introductions and ongoing enhancements to existing lines.
  • Establish and maintain brand development timelines that align with essential sales channel presentations, guaranteeing quality product offerings that meet client pricing, value, and category standards.
  • Monitor global competitive trends and activities to ensure our products exceed market expectations.
  • Oversee the international team, ensuring competitive pricing on current product lines is regularly updated.
  • Collaborate with customer service, production, and quality assurance teams to maintain high-quality standards across existing product lines.

New Product Initiatives

  • Lead the Product Development team, managing the entire lifecycle from concept to market launch.
  • Facilitate product brainstorming sessions and the ongoing generation of innovative product ideas.
  • Work closely with the sales team on client presentations, developing tailored product concepts that address pricing and value, while providing compelling sales materials.
  • Conduct and interpret market research to ensure product recommendations are at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with overseas teams on new product quotations, maintaining detailed specifications and factory costs to ensure MSRP and product margins reflect high value.
  • Maintain strict development and production timelines, ensuring all product milestones and delivery schedules are adhered to.
  • Oversee the prototyping and pre-production sample processes to guarantee quality, value, and functionality prior to production approval.

Leadership Development

  • Guide and mentor the Product Development team.
  • Implement agile methodologies and promote continuous improvement.
  • Identify and execute process enhancements.
  • Address challenges and eliminate obstacles.
  • Manage external freelancers in the creation of design and 3D renderings as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the toy industry or a closely related consumer products sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with a passion for collaboration and creating exciting play opportunities for children.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects across various teams.
  • Creative, innovative, and dedicated to hard work.
  • Proven track record in people management (minimum of 5 years) and continuous process improvement.
  • Results-driven, ensuring timely achievement of all key milestones.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, effectively engaging with all organizational levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate company products while staying informed about competitive offerings and market dynamics.
  • Experience with global supply chains and international vendors.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial or Product Design.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with PLM systems and CAD design is a plus.
