As the Director Of Product Development you will lead a team of product development and sourcing managers that work across the merchandising organization to develop a cohesive customer strategy. You will manage essential performance metrics that promote profitable growth, develop robust partnerships with suppliers, and use vision and creativity to improve the customer experience through compelling assortments. 

You know your supplier and customer needs better than anyone else and are constantly thinking about what is next for your business. Your success requires leadership presence and ability to manage strategic plans. You'll use your skillset to work with suppliers at all levels and navigate interesting, complex challenges.

The Director of Product Development will report to the companies President and have direct reports.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Product Roadmap & Brand Management 

  • Develop a rolling 2-year innovation product roadmap in tandem with the companies President, that keeps the core Creative Kids brands fresh with new product launches and making continual improvements to the existing product lines.
  • Creation and maintenance brand development calendars that aligns with key sales channel presentations, ensuring quality product offerings that align key clients needed pricing, value, and category requirements.
  • Keep a pulse on worldwide competitive activity and trends and ensure our product are surpassing the competition
  • Manage the overseas team and maintain updated, competitive pricing on existing product lines.
  • Work with customer service, production, and quality control teams to ensure a consistent high level of quality on existing product lines.


New Product Development

  • Lead the Product Development team and oversee the entire development process from concept to launch.
  • Lead product brainstorming events and process of continual conceptualization of new product ideas.
  • Work closely with the sales team on client presentations. Developing customer specific product concepts, addressing costing and value, and delivering sales materials that exhibit product concepts in the best possible light.
  • Conduct and analyze market research in order to ensure product recommendations are at the leading edge of the market.
  • Collaborate closely with overseas teams on quoting of new products, maintaining detailed specs and factory costs, ensuring that MSRP and product margins reflect high value. 
  • Maintain tight development and production schedules, ensuring all product milestones and delivery timelines are met.
  • Oversee prototyping and pre-production sample process to assure quality, value, and functionality ahead of production approval.

Leadership

  • Mentor and develop the Product Development team
  • Implement an agile way of working and drive continuous improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Troubleshoot challenges and remove roadblocks
  • Manage outside freelancers in creation of design and 3D drawings as needed.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of toy industry or closely related consumer product industry
  • A strong leadership, passionate about collaboration and developing exciting play opportunities for kids
  • A highly organized individual who is able to handle multiple concurrent projects working cross-functionally with many teams
  • Must be creative, innovative, and an extremely hard worker 
  • Proven track record in people management (minimum of 5+ years) and continual process improvements
  • Must be a driver of results, ensuring that all key milestones are met in a timely manner.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to efficiently work with all levels of an organization, in a fast-paced environment
  • Deep understanding of product design, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to quickly learn company products while staying current with competitive products and markets.
  • Experience working with a global supply chain and overseas vendors.
  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Industrial or Product Design.
  • Expert skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with PLM systems and CAD design a plus.
