Position Overview:
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Lead Quantum Research Innovator specializing in Quantum Information Science, Quantum Sensing, and Quantum Computing. This role is pivotal within the Quantum Information Science Section of the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division, focusing on both theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum information science.


Key Responsibilities:
Engage in cutting-edge research initiatives in quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum-enhanced sensing.

Develop innovative quantum information strategies to address significant national challenges and oversee the research and development required for their practical application.

Direct and participate in various research and development projects.
Analyze, document, and present research findings to diverse national audiences, ensuring clarity and impact.

Collaborate with stakeholders, either independently or as part of a team, to define project requirements, conduct research, and create functional prototypes for demonstration purposes.

Author peer-reviewed publications, technical documentation, and proposals for both internal and external distribution, while representing the organization through technical presentations at major public events.

Guide and mentor early-career researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and students.

Essential Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics, optics, computer science, or a closely related discipline.
A minimum of 6 years of experience in theoretical and/or experimental quantum information beyond the Ph.D. level.

Desirable Qualifications:
8-10+ years of experience in quantum information research within a higher education institution or relevant industry/government laboratory.

Demonstrated independent research capabilities, evidenced by a substantial number of national and/or international peer-reviewed publications and a consistent publication history.

Proven experience in supervising junior research personnel and a track record of successful research project management.
