Description

Responsible for planning, scheduling, preparing and executing production order details. Plans production activities, creates and releases production work orders to meet order promise dates, and monitors and shepherds progress to ensure timely completion and delivery. Interfaces heavily with production management, materials group, and shop floor personnel. A successful production planner is organized, results-driven, and has great problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Enter and update production forecasts in the MRP system. Plan, schedule, and prepare production work orders and release orders to the manufacturing floor. Identify and consider manpower, equipment capacity, and raw material constraints. Elevate concerns to management as necessary. Review sales orders for product availability and order timing. Advise order management on order rescheduling to compensate for rush priorities, material shortages, or production issues. Coordinate with order management, purchasing, stock room, production cell leaders, and shipping to ensure customer satisfaction. Track status of work-in-progress and maintain reports of production progress. Provide guidance on production priorities, expediting as necessary. Complete work orders and move inventory into finished goods. Perform periodic inventory of materials in WIP and FGI stages. Perform data analysis and decision making to drive raw material supply and support finished goods plan. Manage used equipment inventory, track refurbishment progress, and create availability for resale. Review BOMs and routings for new products to ensure successful integration into production process.

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required

Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred

MRP / ERP experience preferred

Operations or manufacturing experience preferred

Prior experience with Planning, Inventory Management, or Materials Control as a Production Planner, Scheduler, Buyer, or Shop Floor Controller preferred

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working MS Office and PC skills required

General mathematics aptitude for material availability discussions required

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records are critical

Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks while maintaining very high quality is critical

Demonstrated ability to work under tight schedule constraints
