Position Overview:

As the Director of Product Development, you will spearhead a team of product development and sourcing professionals, collaborating across the merchandising division to establish a unified customer approach. Your role will involve overseeing critical performance indicators that drive profitable growth, forging strong partnerships with suppliers, and leveraging creativity to elevate the customer experience through engaging product assortments.

Your deep understanding of supplier and customer needs will be crucial as you continuously explore future opportunities for the business. Success in this role demands a strong leadership presence and the capability to manage strategic initiatives effectively. You will engage with suppliers at various levels and navigate complex challenges with ease.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Roadmap & Brand Oversight

  • Develop a dynamic 2-year innovation product roadmap in collaboration with the company President, ensuring the Creative Kids brands remain vibrant with new product introductions and enhancements to existing lines.
  • Create and manage brand development timelines that align with key sales presentations, guaranteeing product offerings meet client pricing, value, and category specifications.
  • Monitor global competitive trends and ensure our products exceed market standards.
  • Oversee the international team to maintain competitive pricing on current product lines.
  • Collaborate with customer service, production, and quality assurance teams to uphold a high standard of quality across existing products.

New Product Development

  • Lead the Product Development team through the entire process from concept to market launch.
  • Facilitate product brainstorming sessions and foster ongoing conceptualization of innovative product ideas.
  • Work closely with the sales team on client presentations, developing tailored product concepts that address pricing and value, while delivering compelling sales materials.
  • Conduct market research to ensure product recommendations are at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with overseas teams on new product quoting, maintaining detailed specifications and factory costs to ensure MSRP and product margins reflect high value.
  • Maintain strict development and production timelines, ensuring all product milestones and delivery schedules are met.
  • Oversee the prototyping and pre-production sample processes to guarantee quality, value, and functionality prior to production approval.

Leadership

  • Mentor and develop the Product Development team.
  • Implement agile methodologies and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and execute process enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot challenges and eliminate obstacles.
  • Manage external freelancers for design and 3D modeling as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in the toy industry or a closely related consumer product sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for collaboration and creating engaging play experiences for children.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently across various teams.
  • Creative, innovative, and dedicated to hard work.
  • Proven track record in people management (minimum of 5+ years) and continuous process improvement.
  • Results-driven, ensuring timely achievement of all key milestones.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, capable of working efficiently with all organizational levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to quickly grasp company products while staying informed about competitive offerings and market trends.
  • Experience working with a global supply chain and international vendors.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial or Product Design.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with PLM systems and CAD design is a plus.
