Position Overview:

As the Director of Product Development, you will spearhead a team of product development and sourcing professionals, collaborating across the merchandising division to establish a unified customer approach. Your role will involve overseeing key performance indicators that drive profitable growth, nurturing strong relationships with suppliers, and leveraging creativity to enhance the customer experience through captivating product assortments.

You possess an in-depth understanding of supplier and customer requirements, always contemplating the future direction of the business. Your success hinges on your leadership presence and your capability to manage strategic initiatives. You will utilize your expertise to engage with suppliers at various levels and navigate complex challenges effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Brand Oversight

  • Formulate a dynamic 2-year innovation product strategy in collaboration with the company's President, ensuring the Creative Kids brands remain vibrant with new product introductions and ongoing enhancements to existing lines.
  • Establish and maintain brand development timelines that align with critical sales channel presentations, guaranteeing high-quality product offerings that meet client pricing, value, and category standards.
  • Monitor global competitive trends and activities to ensure our products consistently exceed market expectations.
  • Oversee the international team, ensuring competitive pricing for existing product lines is regularly updated.
  • Collaborate with customer service, production, and quality assurance teams to maintain exceptional quality across all product lines.

New Product Initiatives

  • Lead the Product Development team, managing the entire process from concept through to market launch.
  • Facilitate product brainstorming sessions and the ongoing generation of innovative product ideas.
  • Work closely with the sales team to create client presentations, developing tailored product concepts that address cost and value while delivering impactful sales materials.
  • Conduct and evaluate market research to ensure product recommendations are at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with overseas teams on new product quotations, maintaining detailed specifications and factory costs to ensure MSRP and product margins reflect high value.
  • Maintain strict development and production timelines, ensuring all product milestones and delivery schedules are adhered to.
  • Oversee the prototyping and pre-production sample processes to guarantee quality, value, and functionality prior to production approval.

Leadership Development

  • Guide and mentor the Product Development team.
  • Implement agile methodologies and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and execute process enhancements.
  • Address challenges and eliminate obstacles.
  • Manage external freelancers for design and 3D rendering as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years in the toy industry or a closely related consumer product sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for collaboration and creating exciting play experiences for children.
  • Highly organized individual capable of managing multiple projects across various teams.
  • Creative, innovative, and dedicated to hard work.
  • Proven experience in people management (minimum of 5 years) and ongoing process improvements.
  • Results-driven, ensuring timely achievement of all key milestones.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, effectively collaborating with all organizational levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep knowledge of product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate company products while staying informed about competitive offerings and market trends.
  • Experience with global supply chains and international vendors.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial or Product Design.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with PLM systems and CAD design is advantageous.
