The Housing Support Specialist for the HEARTH (Helping to Empower and Resettle Through Housing) Program plays a crucial role in assisting families transitioning from shelters to stable housing. This position focuses on providing comprehensive support to families as they adapt to their new living situations and work towards achieving self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure adherence to program guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations regarding client information.
  • Facilitate communication by providing services in the client's preferred language, utilizing interpreters or translation services as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Housing team to create tailored permanent housing plans, empowering families to actively engage in their housing search.
  • Assist families in setting up their new homes, ensuring essential furniture and personal items are ready prior to their move-in date.
  • Coordinate transportation for families to their new residences and conduct safety orientations within 24 hours of placement.
  • Support families in establishing accounts with local utility providers as needed.
  • Complete all necessary procedures upon family placement, including educating families on lease expectations and housing safety protocols.
  • Work with the Housing team to foster positive relationships with landlords and property managers.
  • Conduct regular meetings with adult family members to monitor progress towards self-sufficiency.
  • Adhere to MORI guidelines for family stabilization post-placement, including home visits to ensure compliance with agency standards and lease agreements.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized case files and thorough documentation of client services and referrals, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Engage in both office work and field interactions with clients, including regular travel for client meetings.
  • Uphold professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in required internal and external meetings and training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including refugees and the homeless, is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish are advantageous.
  • Strong listening and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve program objectives and support clients.
  • Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to racial equity, with the ability to engage effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent outreach, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
