Position Overview
The Senior Civil Engineering Project Leader will guide our team of designers and professionals in turning client visions into tangible outcomes. This multifaceted role encompasses client engagement, civil design, and team leadership. Responsibilities include managing projects, preparing engineering documentation and analyses, and developing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for diverse clients and projects. Duties may also involve mentoring team members in AutoCAD Civil 3D. In this capacity, the Project Leader will also focus on business development (seller-doer). We are committed to providing project leaders with the autonomy and support necessary to manage and oversee projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in marketing initiatives and client relationship development for the division.
  • Oversee a range of civil engineering public works and private land development projects.
  • Monitor project scope, budgets, and timelines to ensure contractual obligations and profitability are met. Identify design criteria and supervise efficient design and plan preparation.
  • Address design challenges using engineering calculations and adhering to established design standards.
  • Establish project controls to guarantee accuracy and quality in deliverables.
  • Ensure technical excellence, profitability, scheduling, coordination among project staff, client communication, and follow-up.
  • Lead project tracking efforts and pursue new project opportunities.
  • Engage daily with clients, develop proposals, negotiate project scopes and fees, and ensure timely billing and collections.
  • Manage project personnel, including design engineers and CAD technicians, while mentoring junior staff in fundamental engineering practices.
  • This list is not exhaustive; additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering.
  • 5+ years in a Project Management capacity.
  • Current California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is mandatory.
Preferred Education and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in public works project management is advantageous.
  • Land development experience is preferred.
  • Valid and current Driver's License.
  • Strong design capabilities for public works and land development projects, including grading, drainage, roadways, sewer systems, stormwater management, and utilities.
  • Ability to apply established civil engineering principles within a dynamic service-oriented business context.
  • Expertise in preparing grading plans, utility layouts, site plans, and cost estimates.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a desire to excel in a high-visibility role both internally and externally. Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Current knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Physical Requirements
  • Attend client meetings at various job sites or company offices as required.
  • Ability to drive to job locations.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 per year
