Job Overview

Position Summary

The Application Release Specialist is tasked with overseeing the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of all stages involved in transitioning applications from development environments to production. This role is crucial in facilitating release meetings and crafting deployment strategies that incorporate feedback from various stakeholders across multiple teams. The Application Release Specialist is also responsible for executing the releases, identifying priorities, managing conflicts, and assessing dependencies and risks associated with each release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizes release planning sessions with essential stakeholders to determine the optimal sequence of release packages, ensuring that potential issues and risks are recognized and addressed effectively.
  • Documents and defines the release proposal for each deployment, including scope, timeline, deliverables, and rollback strategies, while reviewing these proposals with key stakeholders.
  • Acts as a quality gatekeeper throughout all release phases, conducting readiness assessments, milestone evaluations, and business go/no-go discussions.
  • Supports the execution of releases by monitoring each phase, validating progress through various testing stages, and notifying relevant stakeholders of any issues that arise.
  • Oversees release processes and decisions, considering their broader impacts across departments.
  • Maintains a detailed release management schedule for specific applications.
  • Coordinates and manages all non-production releases to various testing environments.
  • Facilitates and manages all production releases with a focus on readiness for deployment.
  • Provides coordination and communication support during and after the deployment process.
  • Proactively manages environments to ensure readiness for releases, including necessary backfills.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Product Support and the Monitoring Competency Center to enhance monitoring practices, run books, and post-deployment validations.
  • Works alongside the Quality Control Center to ensure compliance with auditing processes and release management standards.
  • Coordinates and executes all production releases, engaging with Enterprise Architects, Application Architects, DevOps, and Technical Leads to adapt to the evolving architecture landscape.
  • Mentors other Product Release Managers and actively contributes to the Release Center of Competency.
  • Participates in architectural review board and cloud governance discussions as required.
  • Supports zero-downtime and blue-green deployment strategies.
  • Maintains and supports CI/CD and Azure pipelines, contributing to disaster recovery exercises.
  • Creates Service Now Requests for production changes and secures necessary approvals.
  • Attends change management meetings to gather relevant data and information related to releases.

Qualifications

  • 2-6 years of experience in software release management or related process management roles, with a solid understanding of project management principles.
  • Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams towards successful task completion.
  • Demonstrates high integrity and self-direction, with the capability to work independently.
  • 4-6 years of experience in an information systems operations environment, focusing on systems analysis or development.
  • Preferred: Azure Certifications (Fundamentals, Admin, and DevOps), with a requirement to obtain Fundamentals within a specified timeframe.
  • Desired: Experience in software or DevOps development.
  • Familiarity with software lifecycle management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, ServiceNow).
  • Experience with source control management systems (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to all management levels.
