Position Overview
The Senior Research Scientist role at Pearson is integral to the Psychometric and Research Services division, which operates within the broader US School Assessment framework.

Role Responsibilities
Pearson's research scientists deliver comprehensive psychometric support to various state and national clients, pioneering innovative methodologies and executing advanced research initiatives.

Educational Background and Experience
A doctoral degree in educational measurement or a closely related discipline from a recognized higher education institution is required, along with a minimum of three years of pertinent professional experience. This experience should encompass a wide array of psychometric challenges encountered in operational assessment programs or substantial grant-funded research endeavors.

Expertise in Psychometric Techniques
The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in applying, designing, and instructing others in psychometric solutions, including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, scaling and linking, and standard setting, tailored to novel operational testing environments.

Software Proficiency
Experience with psychometric software and programming languages such as SAS, R, SPSS, WINSTEPS, IRTPro, PARSCALE, C++, and MPLUS is essential for addressing unique challenges in operational testing and research.

Scaling and Equating Skills
The role requires adeptness in scaling and equating methodologies, including the ability to review and generate technical documentation. The Senior Research Scientist will guide and design analyses for item calibration, linking, and equating.

Research Design and External Funding
Responsibilities include crafting research studies and analysis specifications, identifying limitations and parameters, and managing resources to fulfill research objectives. The role also involves preparing formal reports for presentation as required.

Test Development and Field Testing
The Senior Research Scientist will collaborate with fellow researchers, data analysts, and subject-matter experts to oversee all facets of test form design and item preparation for field testing.

Proposal Development
This position entails coordinating technical designs for proposals and drafting relevant documentation while participating in proposal review processes.

Awareness of Educational Trends
The candidate will analyze national and state educational trends, advising clients on measurement strategies based on these insights while adhering to established testing standards.

Communication and Presentation Skills
Strong communication abilities are necessary for effective interaction with both internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Research Scientist will tailor technical presentations for diverse audiences and may serve as the primary contact for various testing programs.

Project Management and Leadership
Demonstrated project management skills are essential for leading multiple assessment initiatives or a single large-scale project. The candidate will understand departmental roles and their influence on project deliverables and timelines.

Organizational Alignment
The Senior Research Scientist will align departmental objectives with broader organizational goals, contributing to the development and documentation of processes.

Travel Requirements
A willingness to travel as necessary is expected for this role.

Compensation
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by various factors, including skill set, experience level, and location. The minimum salary range for this position is between $135,000 - $160,000, with eligibility for an annual incentive program.
