Job Overview

Position Title: Pastry Arts Educator

The Pastry Arts Educator is tasked with imparting knowledge to adult learners (and children, if applicable) on the essential techniques of baking, tailored to their specific area of expertise. We seek educators proficient in various baking disciplines, including but not limited to: artisan breads, sweet pies, doughnuts, decorative cakes, cookies, and Viennoiserie. The ideal candidate must possess the capability to modify their teaching strategies to accommodate diverse skill levels among students and guests, ensuring a focus on technique while fostering an enjoyable learning atmosphere.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Arrive one hour before class to lead the support team (Kitchen Assistants) in preparing for the session based on all class preparation documents. Shifts typically last 5 hours.
  2. Supervise and coordinate Kitchen Assistants during preparation, class, and post-class activities.
  3. Ensure the learning environment is well-prepared prior to the arrival of students and guests.
  4. Greet students and guests at the beginning of each class or private event.
  5. Instruct and guide participants on general kitchen and food safety protocols, institutional policies, and cleanliness standards.
  6. Report any concerns regarding students/guests or staff to management for resolution.
  7. Utilize established systems for effective time management and communication.
  8. Actively promote relevant products and services offered by The Gourmandise School to participants.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
  1. A minimum of 2 years of prior experience in baking instruction is preferred.
  2. A positive demeanor and a commitment to delivering outstanding service while leading students and kitchen support staff during classes or events.
  3. A comprehensive understanding of customer service principles, including assessing student/guest needs, maintaining quality service standards, and evaluating satisfaction levels.
  4. Knowledge of food safety regulations and possession of a current and valid food handlers' certificate.

Work Schedule: This is a part-time position, requiring flexibility with most shifts occurring during evenings and weekends (both AM and PM), as well as Friday mornings.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, along with complimentary classes once a month.
