We are seeking a skilled Make-Up Artist to join our team in Washington. As a Make-Up Artist, you will work closely with the make-up designer to create looks and hairstyles for on-air talent, ensuring that the make-up and hairstyles are both technically accurate and aesthetically creative.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues and on-air talent to resolve day-to-day issues related to make-up, suggesting solutions and actions where necessary.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the financial implications of materials required for creating specific looks.
  • Review scripts to develop an understanding of the materials needed for productions, anticipating any potential issues.
  • Develop and sketch design ideas for hairstyles and make-up.
  • Ensure continuity in hair and make-up, working collaboratively with others to achieve a professional, consistent, and coherent look.
  • Address any unpleasant side effects resulting from the application of specialist make-up or hairdressing techniques.
  • Source, budget, and order materials from specialized suppliers.
  • Style hair in line with style guidelines on the production.

Requirements

  • Qualifications in Media Make-Up and Hairdressing, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Ability to interpret and break down a script.
  • Experience in both make-up and hairdressing, with an understanding of the various roles in design and production teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles, practices, and craft skills applicable to make-up and hair.
  • Able to interact with colleagues with diplomacy and tact (including actors and supporting artists).
  • Ability to work as part of a team, clearly and concisely communicating information and effectively organizing work.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and procedures.
  • Expected to have own basic kit.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of lighting, the photographic process, and colors.

Desirable Skills

  • Good IT skills.
  • Experience working in a theatre or wig makers.
  • Experience in the use of prosthetics.
  • Understanding of the freelance nature and structure of the industry.
