Job Summary

The John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a highly skilled Production Manager to oversee the coordination and execution of live events and theatrical productions. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of production operations, technical management, and artistic vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the presentation and production of performances and events, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality results.
  • Manage production operation details, including scheduling, budgeting, and logistics, for multiple productions and events.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions to production problems, while adhering to labor agreements, inventory, and schedule constraints.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including artistic directors, designers, and technical teams, to bring productions to life.
  • Serve as in-house production designer for major fundraising events and general aesthetic designer for stage presentations and outside events.
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of all areas of theatrical production and presentation, including technical management, stage management, and production design.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure the Kennedy Center remains at the forefront of live event production.
  • Supervise and mentor junior production staff, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project execution.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of production expenses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement production strategies, ensuring alignment with the Kennedy Center's mission and goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in theatrical production management, technical production, stage management, and/or production design.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a strong emphasis on theatrical design or technical management.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks, with a strong understanding of production design and technical management principles.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and financial management skills, with a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on creative solutions and innovative thinking.
  • Local candidate preferred, with a willingness to relocate to the DMV area.
