Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Kitchen Assistant Manager to join our team at Seattle Public Schools. As a key member of our Culinary Services department, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality food production and service in our school kitchens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Production and Service: Prepare and serve attractive, high-quality, nutritious meals following standardized procedures, including cooking or baking according to established work schedules and meeting District standards.
  • Time Management: Complete tasks within allocated time frames.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Comply with approved safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Assist in the cleaning of kitchen, equipment, tables, and storeroom as scheduled by the manager and report equipment malfunctions to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories.
  • Leadership and Training: May direct or assist unit employees in meal preparation tasks to meet emergencies, on-the-job training situations, or as necessary to maintain the operation of the cafeteria unit or as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or designee.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain required daily records and reports and submit to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Cash Handling: Collect money and account for meals served according to established procedures either manually or by computer, if requested.
  • Plate Counting: Maintain a plate count for record of meals served.
  • Program Promotion: Promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation.
  • Community Engagement: Assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition.
  • Teamwork: Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others.
  • Additional Duties: Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, lift up to 25 lbs, carry, push, stoop, reach, and handle and perform fine motor functions. The role also requires flexibility and adaptability, effective decision-making and problem-solving, and excellent listening skills. The ability to communicate with students and adults in some difficult situations is also essential.

Qualifications
  • Meet minimum qualifications for Assistant and Satellite Servers.
  • One year of experience in commercial or institutional food preparation.
  • Ability to utilize fundamentals of meal preparation.
  • Skills to plan menus and adjust recipes.
  • Competency to complete and maintain all records as requested and substitute as needed.
