Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager or designated representative, the Assistant Manager for School Culinary Services is responsible for executing skilled culinary tasks to ensure the delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals. This role may involve leading designated staff in food preparation, serving, and post-meal clean-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve appealing, nutritious, and cost-effective meals in accordance with established procedures, adhering to menu planners and district standards.
  • Complete assigned tasks within the designated timeframes.
  • Follow approved safety and sanitation protocols diligently.
  • Assist in the thorough cleaning of kitchen areas, equipment, and storage spaces as scheduled, and report any equipment issues to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Help maintain appropriate inventory levels of food and supplies.
  • May provide direction or assistance to unit staff in meal preparation to address emergencies or on-the-job training needs, as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Maintain accurate daily records and reports for submission to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Handle meal transactions and account for meals served according to established procedures, whether manually or via computer.
  • Keep a record of meals served for accountability.
  • Promote Child Nutrition Services programs to enhance meal participation.
  • Collaborate with school staff to advocate for proper nutrition.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with colleagues and students.

Working Conditions

This position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking, the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and the capacity to carry, push, stoop, reach, and perform fine motor tasks. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the role involves shifting tasks and priorities, handling frequent interruptions, and performing repetitive tasks. Strong communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with students and adults, even in challenging situations.

Qualifications

  • Must meet minimum qualifications for Assistant and Satellite Servers.
  • One year of experience in commercial or institutional food preparation is required.
  • Ability to apply meal preparation fundamentals effectively.
  • Skills in menu planning and recipe adjustments are essential.
  • Competency in completing and maintaining all required records.

Perform additional related duties as assigned.
