Position Title: Recreation Specialist
Reports to: Program Director or Director of Social Services

Department: Social Services
Compensation: $17 – $18 per hour (based on experience)

Job Type: Full-time or Part-time

The Recreation Specialist plays a vital role in designing, organizing, and implementing recreational programs for children in temporary shelters. This position may require flexibility to work during evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate family-oriented activities within the shelter, including workshops on homemaking skills, nutrition, budgeting, and financial literacy.
  • Organize outings tailored to the evolving needs of clients and their children.
  • Develop partnerships with external recreational organizations and facilities.
  • Act as a liaison between the shelter and community recreational resources.
  • Coordinate and execute special events within the facility.
  • Arrange field trips and facilitate participation in community events and holiday celebrations sponsored by the Department of Homeless Services.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to create recreational opportunities for clients and their families.
  • Maintain relationships with cultural institutions to enhance awareness and participation in special events.
  • Accompany families to events to ensure a safe and structured environment.
  • Organize and oversee volunteer groups of parents and escorts.
  • Effectively manage time and coordinate program activities.
  • Coordinate transportation for special events in collaboration with relevant partners.
  • Maintain and submit logs documenting all completed and upcoming activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Regularly update progress on the Midway Living portal.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities aligned with the role.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience preferred.
  • Completion of a 2-hour Mandated Reporter training course (can be completed upon hire).
