Position Title: Housing Services Coordinator

Department: Transitional Housing Services

Reports To: Program Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $26.22 per hour

Role Purpose:

The Housing Services Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting families residing in shelters to secure permanent housing. This position is responsible for overseeing all housing-related activities that facilitate the successful transition of families into stable housing, adhering to the standards set by the organization and its funding partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of housing subsidies and assist families in navigating housing applications.
  • Build and nurture relationships with real estate brokers and landlords to ensure families have access to essential housing resources.
  • Maintain an updated directory of real estate professionals and landlords.
  • Engage with brokers and landlords to confirm that potential housing options align with the organization's client readiness criteria.
  • Organize housing fairs and actively participate in networking opportunities.
  • Lead housing workshops to address the specific needs and challenges faced by clients.
  • Provide essential information and resources to families throughout their housing search journey.
  • Facilitate group discussions with newly arrived families within ten days to review available subsidies and client responsibilities in the housing search process.
  • Coordinate apartment viewings and meetings with landlords.
  • Accompany clients to viewings and other self-sufficiency-related appointments.
  • Monitor all referrals and ensure follow-up with clients, providing feedback to sources and housing leads.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers and clients to devise effective permanent housing strategies.
  • Work alongside Case Managers to advocate for eligible families seeking Supportive Housing.
  • Keep detailed case notes in the Client Assistance and Rehousing Enterprise System (CARES).
  • Ensure all housing documentation is accurately maintained in client files.
  • Prepare mandated reports as required by the organization and funding agencies.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary for apartment viewings and lease signings.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to navigate stairs within the assigned building.
  • Ability to escort clients to appointments, including apartment viewings.
  • Attendance at housing meetings, fairs, and training sessions, both on-site and off-site.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the New York City housing sector.
  • Knowledge of housing subsidies and supportive housing programs is essential.
  • Proven ability to network and foster collaborative relationships with brokers and landlords.
  • Familiarity with entitlement systems and procedures.
  • Understanding of strength-based case management, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, family-centered case management, and boundary setting.
  • Experience working with at-risk and homeless families.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking abilities and deadline responsiveness.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and familiarity with CARES is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
