Job Responsibilities

At Armstrong Garden Centers, we pride ourselves on being a leader in the garden center industry for over 130 years. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to participate in our comprehensive Manager Training Program. This program combines hands-on management experience with an educational curriculum focused on horticulture, equipping you with the essential knowledge to thrive in our organization.

This role is designed to prepare you for an Assistant Store Manager position, where you will work closely with an experienced management team. As a Retail Management Trainee, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall performance of our store and the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a knowledgeable brand ambassador for Armstrong Garden Centers.
  • Engage with customers, providing expert advice on our product offerings.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of 10-20 associates.
  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering and procurement of materials.
  • Take responsibility for the Garden Center's operations, including maintenance, watering, visual merchandising, and marketing displays.
  • Manage operational tasks such as POS systems, scheduling, budgeting, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions to management.
Qualifications

  • Previous experience in retail management or supervisory roles.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • A background in horticulture is advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment

This position requires a flexible schedule, with variable hours depending on the season, including weekends. The role involves significant physical activity, including lifting, bending, and walking, with unassisted lifting limits between 30 and 50 lbs. Most of your time will be spent outdoors, with some indoor responsibilities.
