Embedded Counselor in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets

We are seeking a skilled Embedded Counselor to join our team at the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. As an Embedded Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing direct clinical and educational services to cadets, while also collaborating with the Commandant Staff, Residential Wellbeing Coordinators, and ROTC faculty and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct clinical services to undergraduate cadets, including initial consultation and assessment, crisis interventions, individual and group counseling, psychiatric referrals, and drop-in office hours.
- Consult with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding cadet mental health concerns.
- Participate in orientation for new cadets and new cadet week training, educational programming and outreach events, and other collaborations as needed.
The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center is a multidisciplinary team of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students dedicated to delivering high-quality mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech.
Requirements- A master's degree in counseling or social work, or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-approved program with an APA-approved internship.
- Licensed eligible as a licensed professional counselor, licensed social worker, or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and interest in collaboration with residence life, academic departments, faculty, and staff.
- Prior military experience and/or experience working in a military training environment such as a senior military college.
- Experience working with undergraduate students.
- Experience in outreach and educational programming, e.g., suicide prevention gate-keeper programs.
- Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.
