Embedded Counselor in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences

**Job Summary**
We are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Counselor to join our team in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. As an Embedded Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing direct clinical and educational services to students, as well as consultation and training opportunities for faculty, advisors, and staff.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students, including initial consultation and assessment, individual and group counseling, psychiatric referrals, and consultation with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding student mental health concerns.
- Participate in orientation for new students, faculty, and staff; educational programming in suicide prevention; attendance at department and college meetings; and other collaborations to be determined.
- Work with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
**Requirements**
- Master's degree in counseling or social work plus two years of experience or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, from an APA-approved program with an APA-approved internship.
- Be licensed eligible as a licensed professional counselor, licensed social worker or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within 1-2 years depending on degree.
- Experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and interest in collaboration with academic departments, faculty, and staff.
- Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in working with undergraduate and graduate students.
- Experience in outreach and educational programming, e.g., suicide prevention gate-keeper programs.
- Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.
- Experience with managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
- Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills.
- A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
- The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
