Description

The Employment and Training Specialist will directly report to the Director of Adult Education. This role involves supporting SNAP beneficiaries referred by the Department of Human Services. It is important to note that this position is funded through grants, and its continuation is contingent upon the availability of state funding and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews, assessments, and provide assistance to clients seeking educational and employment support.

• Aid clients in developing personalized education and employability plans.

• Collaborate with the Department of Human Services to establish and maintain the Employment and Training program.

• Act as the primary liaison between Adult Education and the Department of Human Services.

• Foster positive relationships with clients, partner agencies, and colleagues.

• Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

• Organize and facilitate workshops focused on job readiness, including interview techniques, resume writing, application processes, professional attire, and other essential soft skills.

• Clearly communicate program rules and procedures to clients, both individually and in group settings.

• Manage and track referrals of SNAP recipients to the Employment and Training program to ensure compliance with mandatory participation.

• Monitor and compile reports documenting client participation, training involvement, and job placements on a monthly basis.

• Take the lead in data entry of client participation into the designated database.

• Engage in training sessions and meetings as required.

• Provide assistance in Adult Education classrooms as necessary.

• Acquire cross-training in all programs to understand requirements and support students in achieving their goals.

• Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives.

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: A Bachelor's Degree is required. The candidate must obtain Career Services Provider (CSP) certification within one year of employment.

EXPERIENCE: Two to three years of experience in case management, assisting clients in achieving their educational and employment objectives. Candidates should be detail-oriented, organized, outgoing, and possess strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse population.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and spelling; familiarity with general office procedures; knowledge of basic record-keeping practices; and competency in word processing applications. Ability to operate standard office equipment and provide assistance to staff, visitors, and callers is essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position involves regular interaction with department staff, personnel from other state agencies, clients/students, and the general public.
