Job Description

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled Perianesthesia Department Manager to oversee the efficient flow and movement of patients to and from the PACU department. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of patient flow and perianesthesia department operations, as well as strong analytical and organizational abilities to make effective decisions in an expedient manner while maintaining high quality care standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs the efficient flow and movement of patients to and from the PACU department.
  • Establishes effective communications with nursing management, anesthesia floor leader, surgeon, and hospital administration to ensure efficient utilization of the PACU department.
  • Ensures that optimum utilization is maintained with minimum use of overtime and additional staff.
  • Establishes and sustains successful external relationships with ancillary departments to assure smooth and efficient functioning of the PACU department.
  • Develops and maintains a plan of organization which facilitates congruency with organizational goals.
  • Monitors the accuracy of the Epic scheduling program and interacts with Information Systems to ensure that the integrity of the system is maintained.
  • Plans for additional staffing as needed and secures resources with consideration of budget impact.
  • Implements and monitors adherence to personnel and departmental policies.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment conducive to high morale and job satisfaction, fulfillment of staff goals, and delivery of optimum performance.
Requirements
  • Graduated from an approved school of nursing; bachelor's degree required, MSN preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Extensive knowledge of patient flow and perianesthesia department operations.
  • Continually update clinical knowledge & skills through formal and informal education and review of the current literature.
  • Proven ability to work well independently, possess sound decision making skills and work effectively when required to make and facilitate complex decisions.
Working Conditions
  • The Perianesthesia department is a stressful, high-volume and high-acuity patient care environment. Work is underground with no windows or exposure to natural light. There is a possible exposure to infectious diseases.
