Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the Metropolitan Council. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our customers and employees, as well as enforcing laws and regulations within our transit system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas in a squad car, on foot, or onboard public transit to ensure the safety and security of our customers and employees.
  • Enforce laws and regulations within our transit system, including traffic laws and ordinances.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide assistance as needed.
  • Conduct visual inspections and recognize, respond, investigate, and enforce violations of laws and ordinances.
Requirements
  • An associate degree in Law Enforcement from an accredited College or University.
  • Must currently be MN Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensed or eligible to be POST licensed as a full-time peace officer in the State of Minnesota by the time of conditional offer.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement from an accredited College or University.
  • Conversational in a second language other than English.

Selection Process

Candidates will be referred to the hiring supervisor for consideration based on the results of the following assessment process:

  1. Minimum Qualification Review - Review by Human Resources to ensure minimum qualifications are met, including an acceptable Work Record Evaluation for internal ATU employees.
  2. Structured Panel Interview - Scored interview by a panel of Metro Transit/Met Council staff.
  3. Chief Selection Interview - Interview including the Chief of Police (may be held after background is complete).
  4. Background Check - Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Metro Transit Police Department.
  5. Psychological Evaluation - After passing the background check, a conditional offer of employment may be extended. All candidates must be recommended for hire based on the psychological evaluation.
  6. Medical Examination / Work Performance Test / Drug test - Candidates must successfully pass the medical examination, work performance, and pre-employment drug screen.
