Job Summary

The City of Omaha is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining public safety in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce federal, state, county, and city laws through de-escalation of chaotic situations and identification, apprehension, physical control, and/or arrest of potential suspects.
  • Conduct investigations and patrol activities, including traffic investigations.
  • Use appropriate force when necessary, including the use of firearms and weapons.
  • Serve as a first responder to disaster and emergency incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with law enforcement and emergency personnel, citizens, witnesses, offenders, and victims.
  • Safeguard and account for evidence and non-department property.
  • Perform administrative activities, including writing reports and completing required documentation/paperwork.
  • Participate in court procedures and proceedings.
  • Participate in training activities as required.
  • Maintain regular job attendance and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or provide proof of permanent residence or authorization to work.
  • Must pass a criminal background review, reference check, and if applicable, a credit check and background investigation.
  • Must provide proof of valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at the eleventh grade level.
  • Must be certified by a licensed physician as able to meet the physical requirements of a police officer.
Working Conditions

Police Officers work in a fast-paced environment and may be exposed to hazardous situations. They must be able to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
