Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Maplewood. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect crime, and to enforce laws and regulations.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and provide assistance to citizens as needed.
  • Investigate complaints and incidents, and prepare accurate and thorough reports.
  • Conduct searches, apprehend and arrest law violators, and transport prisoners.
  • Provide emergency medical care and first aid as needed.
  • Assist other agencies and maintain contact and cooperation as appropriate.
  • Provide information and assistance to citizens, and maintain high visibility while on patrol.
  • Assist in preparing cases and testifying at trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
  • Operate and maintain department equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain skills proficiency as required by the Minnesota P.O.S.T. Board and the City of Maplewood.
Working Conditions

The Police Officer position requires a high level of physical fitness, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The position involves standing, walking, and running for extended periods, as well as lifting and carrying heavy equipment and individuals.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field, and licensed as a full-time police officer by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training.
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license or equivalent out-of-state license.
  • Pass the Department's background investigation, physical fitness standards, and psychological exams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Fluency in a language other than English, including sign language.
