Job Summary

The City of Franklin is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Water Operator I to join our team. As a Water Operator I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our water treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain the operation of water treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, and chemical feed systems.
  • Conduct routine rounds to inspect and record plant operations, including chemical tank usage and equipment functionality.
  • Perform laboratory tests to monitor water quality and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist senior operators with collecting water quality parameters and applying basic comprehension of parameter results.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including cleaning process equipment and performing shutdown and start-up of plant equipment as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; two to three years of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Working Conditions

The work environment is loud and requires frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The physical demands of the job require frequent standing, walking, and sitting, as well as occasional use of hands to finger, handle, or feel.
