Job Summary

The City of Franklin is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Treatment Operator Senior to join our team. As a key member of our water treatment operations, you will be responsible for directing the operations and activities of the facility and equipment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality water to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operations
    • Monitor and control the general operation of the facility through the use of Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) program and process control and manipulation.
    • Perform maintenance of equipment, including cleaning process equipment, collecting and documenting water quality parameters, and performing shutdown and start-up of plant equipment as required.
    • Conduct routine rounds to inspect and record plant operations, including chemical tank usage and general functionality of equipment.
    • Use SCADA outputs and knowledge of Aquatic Resource Alteration Permit (ARAP) river withdrawal parameters to manipulate raw water pumps and operate within compliance requirements.
    • Direct the completion of operational tasks assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent through time management of staff and resources.
    • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and direction of the operations and maintenance of the facility.
    • Analyze facility performance, recommend, and implement process control techniques and other improvements to ensure maximum operational efficiency and optimized finished water quality.
  • Emotional Intelligence
    • Ability to perform as a team member and understand chain-of-command decisions.
    • Ability to work independently and provide direction to staff.
  • Other Job Duties
    • Perform other job duties as assigned, including operating lawn equipment to maintain grounds and maintaining cleanliness and general housekeeping of work facilities.
    • Assist other employees in the Department as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • High School diploma or equivalent, plus three to four years of water plant operation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required Certifications/Licenses
    • Tennessee Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certification.
Work Environment

The work environment is loud, with frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The work environment is also subject to outdoor weather conditions.
