Starting pay is $19.502 per hour, with opportunities for promotion to Construction Technician II at a rate of $22.434 per hour upon meeting certification requirements and demonstrating necessary skills.


Key Responsibilities:

Testing Duties:
  • Conduct or assist in standard tests on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform various tests such as slump tests and air content tests on concrete.
  • Utilize nuclear gauges for soil density and moisture content testing.

Inspection Duties:
  • Oversee contractor activities on construction sites, ensuring adherence to grades and specifications.
  • Monitor scales for accurate measurement of materials used in construction.
  • Inspect earthwork and removal operations.
  • Interpret construction plans for effective project oversight.

Surveying Duties:
  • Engage in highway construction surveying, utilizing plans and data to mark locations on-site.
  • Record survey notes and maintain accurate logs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on surveying equipment.
  • Assist in snow removal operations as needed.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills to fulfill job requirements.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Highway Construction Technician I: Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license.
  • Highway Construction Technician II: Experience in construction-related activities or relevant coursework/training. Must also be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in surveying, construction materials testing, and record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment operation.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of standards and specifications for construction projects.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to construction.
  • Skill in using technical equipment and software for surveying and testing.
  • Capability to maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
