Starting pay is $19.502 per hour, with opportunities for promotion to Construction Technician II at a rate of $22.434 per hour upon obtaining necessary certifications and demonstrating required skills.


Key Responsibilities:

Testing Duties:
  • Conduct or assist in standard tests on various construction materials to ensure compliance with specifications, while maintaining automated records.
  • Perform specific tests on Portland cement concrete, including slump tests and air content tests.
  • Execute soil tests using nuclear gauges to assess density and moisture content.

Inspection Duties:
  • Review contractors' work on construction projects, including grade and elevation checks, while documenting measurements and maintaining automated records.
  • Monitor scales to weigh trucks transporting construction materials.
  • Inspect earthwork and removal operations.
  • Interpret construction plans to facilitate project inspections.

Surveying Duties:
  • Participate in a highway construction survey crew, utilizing construction plans and data to stake locations at construction sites.
  • Record survey notes and plot cross-sections.
  • Measure elevations and distances using various tools.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of equipment and assist in loading and unloading materials.
  • Operate snow removal equipment as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and maintain reliable attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in surveying, construction materials testing, and field inspections.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment operation and computer software related to construction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of construction standards and specifications.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations and technical reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships with coworkers and the public.
