Starting pay is $19.502 per hour, with potential promotion to Construction Technician II at $22.434 per hour upon meeting certification requirements and demonstrating necessary skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing Duties:
- Conduct or assist in standard testing of construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Perform specific tests such as slump tests and unit weight tests on concrete.
- Execute soil density and moisture content tests using various methods.
Inspection Duties:
- Oversee contractor activities on construction sites, ensuring adherence to project specifications.
- Monitor and record measurements and material weights used in highway construction.
- Inspect earthwork and removal operations.
- Interpret construction plans for accurate project inspections.
Surveying Duties:
- Participate in survey crews for highway construction, utilizing construction plans and data for site staking.
- Reduce survey notes and plot cross-sections.
- Measure elevations and distances using various surveying tools.
- Maintain and operate surveying equipment and assist in field data collection.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license.
- For Technician II, relevant experience or coursework in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspections is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in surveying, road construction, and materials testing.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation and computer software for documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of construction standards and specifications.
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations and technical report preparation.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
